Mass protest gatherings in major cities and small towns alike across the country have raised fears of increased spread of COVID-19. Some of the hardest-hit cities like NY, LA, DC, and Boston saw the largest protest gatherings over the past week.
America is grappling with multiple major national crises, any of which on their own would be difficult to manage. The COVID-19 pandemic has upended American life and led to the worst unemployment in this country since the Great Depression. Over 40 million people out of work and millions more furloughed or otherwise economically impacted. Nationwide unrest and violent protests following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police have resulted in hundreds of arrests, millions of dollars of damage, and left many people wondering "where does America go from here?"
An April poll from the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) found that 98 percent of its member companies had canceled international business trips, and 92 percent axed all or most domestic travel. But in a May follow-up poll, more than half the respondents said they plan to resume travel in the near future.
New unemployment claims in the U.S. passed the 40 million mark since the pandemic took hold. Approximately 1 in 4 U.S. workers have filed for unemployment since mid-March.
