SITUATION: As companies around the world bring their workforce back together safely for corporate events and retreats, they not only have a duty to provide care for their employees should a medical issue arise, but also ensure that proper COVID-19 safety measures and protocols are met.

In the fall of 2021, a corporate client required an onsite medical team and operation to provide comprehensive care and services for a series of large events with over 3,000 total guests in attendance. Global Guardian was tasked with planning and executing the medical support—including emergency and non-emergency assistance and COVID-19 testing—at three different event locations in Florida over the course of 20+ days to ensure guests with medical needs received the care they required.

RESPONSE: Upon receiving the client request, Global Guardian’s special operations and medical teams worked together to create a thorough plan to provide the required medical services, including necessary standard operating procedures and protocols. With three weeks to the start of the event, Global Guardian assembled a team of two board-certified physicians and four highly qualified paramedics—and stood up a full-scale operation with all medical supplies and medicines to address a wide range of medical issues. The system was designed so that any guest in need of care would have one point of contact to request support.

At the event, the onsite physicians and medics were at the direction of a team leader with extensive experience in emergency medical assistance, who coordinated response to all medical inquiries, sending paramedics directly to the guest to triage the issue or coordinating physician consultations. The team responded to all emergency and non-emergency situations with a high degree of care, including:

  • Dehydration
  • Food poisoning
  • COVID-19 or other flu-like symptoms
  • Minor inquires

While the need never arose during the course of the events, the onsite team was also prepared to provide medical transportation to the nearest hospital facility, as well as coordinate a medical evacuation to a guest’s hospital of choice.

To ensure the event also had a significant COVID-19 testing system onsite, Global Guardian found and vetted a HIPPA-compliant testing partner and administered tests to guests who experienced symptoms during their stay or required one for travel out of the country. The team not only coordinated all the onsite testing but developed and executed thorough COVID-19 protocols as required.

Throughout the mission, Global Guardian’s team worked seamlessly with all other vendors onsite, including a security partner when an incident required both security and medical response. Additionally, the team leader provided daily incident reporting that followed HIPPA regulations to the client point of contact to ensure they had situational awareness
