INCIDENT: Cyberattack on consulting firm thwarted

LOCATION: Boston, Massachusetts

SERVICE: Cyber Security Incident Response 

SITUATION: In August 2018, Global Guardian received an emergency call from a Boston-based consulting company who had received a warning of an impending cyberattack from the FBI. The attack was thought to be planned for that midnight at the start of their payroll run. The FBI warned that the attack could be crippling, likely using Bitpaymer ransomware.

RESPONSE: Within two hours, Global Guardian arrived onsite. An hour after arriving, the Virtual Chief Information Security Officer loaded ‘anti-evasion’ endpoint software that immediately began identifying and stopping the attack as it began. In the end, every computer was found to have been previously staged for attack, yet not one machine was successfully penetrated.  Over the next two weeks, Global Guardian installed a strong security defense system and fought off attackers during re-entry attempts.  With the successful outcome, the company is now under long term cyber security management and monitoring, ensuring 24/7 protection.
