In January 2025, devastating wildfires swept through Southern California—including the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, and Hughes fires. The large-scale evacuations and widespread communications disruptions made it challenging for organizations to ensure the safety of their employees and executives. One of Global Guardian's Duty of Care clients, a multinational corporation with key personnel residing in affected areas, needed real-time accountability of their executives and employees to confirm their well-being and evacuation status.

With emergency response services overwhelmed and communications networks compromised, the client required a proactive approach to locate and establish contact with impacted employees. 

 

MISSION AND RESPONSE

Global Guardian’s 24/7 Operations Center immediately leveraged its geofencing technology to identify executives and employees with registered addresses in or near the wildfire evacuation zones.  

The operation unfolded in three key phases: 

1. Identification and Initial Outreach

  • Using Global Guardian’s monitoring and intelligence platform, analysts identified client personnel located in high-risk wildfire zones. 
  • The team initiated direct communication to confirm the safety and location of these individuals, determining if they had evacuated or required assistance. 
 2. Persistent Contact and Communication Management
  • Due to widespread telecom disruptions, several employees were unreachable. Several did not answer their phones due to reluctance to answer calls from unfamiliar numbers. 
  • Following the client’s directive, Global Guardian continued outreach efforts at two-hour intervals until contact was made. 
  • In some cases, alternative communication methods—such as messaging via LinkedIn—were utilized to establish contact. 
3. Client Coordination and Status Updates
  • The client received real-time updates on the contact status of all affected employees. 
  • Over the course of the response, Global Guardian successfully established communication with 12 employees and executives, providing detailed reporting on their safety and whereabouts. 

 

Outcome

Through proactive outreach and persistent crisis communication, Global Guardian helped to ascertain and ensure the well-being of all at-risk employees, despite significant communication barriers. The team’s structured approach, robust monitoring platform, and technology powered by world-class intelligence, provided the client with:
