Processing International Travel Bookings Only

If you have a travel integration with your Travel Management Company (TMC) into the platform, you may wish to exclude processing domestic travel bookings and only process trips that are international for the traveler.

Domestic vs. International Travel

Domestic

A booking is considered domestic when all start and end locations for every segment within a single booking reference are within the user's designated Home Country according to their profile or company settings.

This applies across all travel components included in the booking reference, such as:

    • Flights
    • Cars
    • Hotels
    • Other supported travel segments

International

A booking is considered international if it does not meet the definition of domestic.

Important: If any itinerary segment of a booking reference is international, the entire booking reference is classified as international. The platform does not process only the international segments of a booking.

How the Traveler's Home Country Is Determined

The traveler's Home Country is determined in the following order.

1. End User Profile — Home Country

The traveler's Home Country field in their user profile takes priority.

The Home Country can be:

    • Updated manually by the end user in their profile or by their administrator
    • Updated by the client through an HR feed of user information

If a Home Country is available on the traveler's profile, this value is used.

2. TMC/PCC Source

If the Home Country is not defined on the traveler's profile, the platform can determine the Home Country from the TMC (PCC) source.

Some PCCs are country-specific, meaning travelers only make bookings through the TMC associated with their country.

In these cases, the PCC can provide the traveler's Home Country when it has not been defined in their user profile.

3. Client Global Setting

If the Home Country cannot be determined from either the traveler profile or the TMC/PCC, the platform uses the client's global Home Country setting.

This is the catch-all option. The Client Global Home Country will be a required field during client configuration in the Customer area of the platform.

Country Exclusions

Customers can optionally configure one or more countries of exclusion. A country of exclusion can be used when a client does not want travel to a particular country to be treated as international for the purpose of processing.

How Country Exclusions Affect Classification

Country exclusions do not simply remove individual segments from a booking. The platform evaluates the booking reference as a whole.

If every start/end location in the booking falls within either:

    • The traveler's Home Country, or
    • A configured country of exclusion

Then the booking can be excluded from international processing.

However, if any start/end segment contains a country that is neither the Home Country nor an excluded country, the entire booking reference is processed as international.

Changes to Domestic or Country Exclusion Settings

Changes to a client's Domestic or Country Exclusion list are applied going forward only. Existing bookings are not reprocessed if these settings are changed.

This means:

    • Current or past itineraries that have already been processed will not be reclassified.
    • The updated exclusion list applies to bookings received after the change takes effect.
    • Previously processed bookings remain unchanged.

These filters can be implemented by speaking to your account or onboarding manager who will be able to assist you.
