CASE STUDY: MEDICAL SUPPORT

LOCATION: New Zealand

SERVICE: Air Ambulance Medical Evacuation

SITUATION: 

While staying in New Zealand, an Air Ambulance member suffered a stroke and was hospitalized in the local area. 

RESPONSE:

Upon receiving the call from the member’s family, the Air Ambulance team immediately began identifying transport options to bring the member to a hospital close to home. With the member’s consent, one of Global Guardian's board-certified physicians connected with the local treating physicians to monitor their patient’s status and determine when she would be able to be transported.

After receiving care at the local hospital in New Zealand for a few days, the medical teams determined that it would be safe for the patient to fly home via commercial aircraft with a medical escort. The patient was transported by ground to the airport for the flight. Once safely on board, the patient made the 9,600-mile journey home to the East Coast of the United States. Due to the distance and the member’s condition, Air Ambulance executed the trip over the course of a couple days—coordinating transportation and accommodations at each stop—to ensure a safe arrival home. 

Thanks to the quick planning and experienced medical evaluation by the Air Ambulance team, the patient was able to travel home comfortably and safely and receive follow-up care from the appropriate specialists at home.
